Learning Environment in Primary
Our Primary campus caters for students from Year 1 to Year 6. There are four classes in each year group, and we carefully manage class sizes to maintain an appropriate student–teacher ratio. Each class is supported by an educational assistant as well as subject-specific specialists.
The campus has extensive outdoor facilities with play areas, a Forest School, an all-weather pitch, a netball court and an outdoor heated swimming pool. School performances and assemblies take place in the recently refurbished Globe Theatre.
Primary students have access to a dedicated set of specialist rooms, including two music rooms and the Discovery Centre, which features its own green screen room and a full range of digital educational resources.
The Main campus library is a key hub of the school with a collection of over 20,000 items, including picture books, classic and contemporary fiction, poetry, non-fiction books and periodicals. All items are researched and selected to meet the school’s dynamic curriculum requirements and ensure there is suitable material for all ages and abilities. Students visit the library for a weekly, 45-minute session with their teachers. Children can also visit the library on their own during breaks, or with their families outside of school hours.
Technology is also an integral part of teaching and learning at DBIS. There is one-to-one Chromebook provision for all Primary students, with class sets of iPads to support student learning and a weekly lesson in the Discovery Centre.
