Beyond the Classroom
Trips, Camps & Events
Opportunities for DBIS students to learn outside of the classroom are highly valued at the school and support our holistic approach to learning. Each year group in the Primary School participates in visits, trips and activities to support their social and intellectual development. These activities foster the critical skills of inquiry and problem-solving. Our many long-standing links with organisations both regionally and internationally ensure that students are involved in rich and diverse learning experiences, thus enhancing the learning taking place within the classroom.
Students participate in exciting day visits to sites like the Hong Kong Wetland Park and other fascinating local places. Theatre visits and trips to Hong Kong’s wonderful museums also play a crucial part in helping students learn about their local environment and the history and culture of the country in which they live.
Outside the classroom, we aim to provide memorable experiences that foster a genuine love of learning and personal development. In addition to an exciting range of visitors and theme weeks, students from Years 4, 5 and 6 participate in residential camps both locally and overseas.
As part of our membership of FOBISIA, students also have the opportunity to participate in competitions, festivals and activities, both regionally and internationally. There are several festivals related to Creative Arts, where selected students join other children from schools from across the region to develop a range of performance skills. The Primary FOBISIA Games also take place annually. We take a 42-strong squad of boys and girls to compete in various sporting disciplines, including track and field events, swimming, T-Ball and football.
Extracurricular Activities
DBIS offers a large range of free extracurricular activities for students, before, during and after school hours, providing a range of activities to suit all interests and abilities.
We are fortunate to have excellent sporting facilities for our Primary School, enabling us to provide a wide range of competitive and non-competitive activities throughout the year and thus promoting maximum participation, individual aspiration, team achievement and personal excellence.
Our comprehensive Enrichment programme also offers a range of opportunities in creative arts, languages, technology, reading and environmentalism. For more information, please visit the DBIS Parent Hub.
In addition, the school offers a thriving peripatetic programme during school hours, where children have the opportunity to learn a range of instruments. Students are actively encouraged to join a number of junior musical ensembles to build on the skills acquired during their instrument lessons.
Service & Leadership
We encourage our students to be active members of the school community through our extensive Student Leaders programme in Year 6 and our School Council (whole school).
House Captains and Student Ambassadors lead inter-house activities and assemblies. They play an active leadership role in the school library, canteen, playgrounds and classes of younger year groups. In addition, the Student Council representatives meet regularly to work on whole-school projects and support one local and one international charity.
