EYFS Learning Environment
Our FS-1 and FS-2 students are located on a welcoming and spacious campus with an engaging outside play area in delightful grounds including the Forest School. Indoors, the EYFS campus has purpose-built Reggio Emilia-inspired classrooms, a library, a dining hall, play and learning areas, and a specialist music room providing a stimulating and nurturing learning environment. Each class has one teacher and one full-time educational assistant, and there are a maximum of 20 students per class.
The EYFS day is a full-day programme, and the day is interspersed with regular breaks for play and snacks or lunch. FS-1 children also have a 30-minute rest time during the day.
Forest & Beach Schools
For young children's wellbeing and development, the outdoor environment is as valued and meaningful as the indoor environment. Therefore, we ensure that our children have access to a high-quality outdoor environment. The climate here in Hong Kong provides a wonderfully rich and dynamic environment for exploration, play and discussion.
Our Forest and Beach Schools programme complements our EYFS curriculum and play-based learning approach. Every child has regular opportunities to attend Forest and Beach School here at DBIS EYFS, which ultimately supports the children's development.
Forest and Beach Schools aim to:
Provide more opportunities for authentic learning experiences
Help identify and solve real-life problems
Develop transferable skills
Foster curiosity and creativity; encourage communication and collaboration
Maintain the environment and develop a real sense of connection to the world
Sessions take place throughout the year and in various weather conditions, where safe to do so.
The Learning Library
Our EYFS library items are researched and selected to meet the requirements of our dynamic curriculum, ensuring that suitable material for all ages and abilities is available for every student.
The Learning Library acts as an information hub for students, where they can come to listen to stories, research topics and, of course, borrow books. Our librarians are always on hand to ensure that students get the maximum possible learning benefit.
We actively encourage families to visit the library outside of class time to borrow books to be read aloud at home. There is compelling research that shows reading aloud helps strengthen parent–child bonds, increase language skills and develop literacy.
