Pastoral & Wellbeing

Academic success and wellbeing are not mutually exclusive. At DBIS, our pastoral care system is built on the philosophy that we cannot achieve one without the other. DBIS developed pastoral care in Secondary School to ensure that all students are supported, as individuals, to fulfil their potential across all aspects of school life.

The DBIS Values, Mission and Aims underpin the pastoral care provision and provide a framework for the way we support the young people in our care. Upon joining the Secondary School, we assign students to tutor groups,  which they then remain in throughout their Secondary experience, ensuring continuity of support.

Students' form tutors play a fundamental role in guiding and advising each child and are the first point of contact for students,  parents and other teachers. Through registration time and one-to-one tutoring, form tutors significantly contribute to their students’ social and academic development.

Supporting the group of tutors are the Secondary Heads of Year, who are responsible for every student’s academic progress in their respective year group and for providing a high level of pastoral care.

Further wellbeing provision is offered through our House system, which consists of four houses: Typhoon, Thunder, Lightning and Storm. Our students run House events throughout the school year, drawing on their talents in sports, creative arts and academics. These events contribute to the holistic approach of our pastoral model and promote positive relationships, camaraderie and confidence for all learners.
