Beyond the Classroom

Activities, Trips & Events

Trips feed the imagination, encourage independence and are special times that see our students explore the immediate environment of Discovery Bay. An understanding of the features of our unique setting in our home or host country allows for the development of a sense of community and a love of the natural world.

Activities that bring parents and children together are hosted throughout the year in the EYFS phase. Students share their learning through inventive entry and exit points to topics and themes and through sports days, storytelling evenings and concert performances. Guided by students' emerging interests, spontaneous activities and events are a key feature of EYFS as we respond creatively to our children’s developing independence and imaginations. Parents are always most welcome to share personally significant cultural events, and the true diversity of our EYFS community is celebrated throughout the year.

Extracurricular Activities

Age-appropriate extracurricular activities are available to students in EYFS. These include creative arts activities, gardening club, Mandarin and Buzzing for Books, and they take place throughout the year.

In 2019, DBIS introduced to Hong Kong the Micro and Mini Duke Awards, which encourage younger children to develop valuable life skills.

Service & Leadership

Students have the opportunity, with the support of their teachers, to join the EYFS Student Council to lead a number of in-school wellbeing initiatives and charity opportunities.

Leadership through service helps to instil key DBIS values in students, and our EYFS children are given the opportunity to develop these skills along with their older Primary and Secondary counterparts.
