Digital Citizenship – The Lowdown

In today’s modern era, technology is integral to practically everything we do. For school-age children, it’s almost impossible to imagine a world where information isn’t instantly available at the tap of a screen.

Whilst on the one hand, this brings immense benefits for areas such as learning, communication and entertainment, it also brings with it inherent risks and challenges. In the past parents worried about their children’s safety in the physical world; now there’s a whole new online world to monitor as well, and the speed at which it’s evolving means it’s extremely difficult to keep track of.

At DBIS, our students are introduced to the concept of digital citizenship from an early age. It’s a huge topic, and our Learning Technologies department works with class and subject teachers across the school to embed age-appropriate activities throughout students’ learning.

Digital citizenship doesn’t stop at the school gate though, and it’s vital that parents seek out the knowledge and tools they need to support their children’s online safety and wellbeing.

DBIS Head of Learning Technologies Angela Moriarty recently spoke to Around DB magazine about what parents need to know when it comes to digital citizenship.
