Our group went on a week-long tour of Sri Lanka, starting by the beach in Negombo.
We then took the train up to Kandy and enjoyed a traditional dance class and a tour of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. We then headed deeper into Hill Country on the iconic Blue Train, winding through tea plantations and over waterfalls, to Haputale. We began a two day service project with the Horadorowwa School, contributing our efforts to four projects that have left a tangible: the construction of a fence, the laying of a water pipe, refurbishing classrooms and repairing furniture. The entire group dedicated themselves fully to the project and enjoyed a series of cricket matches with the students and teachers of the school.
We then travelled south, with a Safari at the Unawatuna National Park and a visit to an Elephant Orphanage, before a surfing lesson and further service work at the Turtle Rescue Centre. On our final day, we toured the historic city of Galle and cycled through the countryside to a factory that makes rope from coconut husks.
The trip was a truly inspiring experience for everyone involved and the entire school community should be proud of the dedication and commitment shown by our students during the service portions of the trip.
