What's Been Happening in Year 1

Primary Year 1

Welcome back to Term 3. We hope you all had a terrific Easter break with your families, and loved ones.

Year 1 show rehearsals are now in full swing! Mark Wednesday 17th May in your diary! The Year 1 children have been busy preparing and spent Monday morning with our talented Music department rehearsing their show songs as well as different percussion ensembles. The students had their first show run threw this week, and the students we able to project their voices and say their lines with enthusiasm. We can’t wait for you all to see our hard work!

This week in English the Year 1 children have been continuing to learn the story of ‘The Three Little Pigs’. With our ‘Talk for Writing’ program the students have learnt new actions to retell the story and are now in the process of completing their story map to help re write the story. As a part of this unit of work the students have been focusing on using a variety of different openers in their writing such as ‘Early one morning’, ‘Unfortunately’ and ‘Once upon a time’.

In Maths this week, we’ve been learning to double and halve numbers to 20. We’ve been using a variety of strategies and tools to help us solve these numbers. We’ve even had fun outside sorting numbers of objects in halve.
