What's Been Happening in Year 1
It has been a very busy couple of weeks in Year 1!
We had lots of fun during Book Week and thoroughly enjoyed all of the activities on offer. We had great fun designing our classroom doors and turning them into different books! We also took part in lots of Renegade Reads around school and Y1RR even surprised Y2JH with a story in their classroom. Mr Hoskin was very surprised! It was great fun thinking of a story idea for the Build a Book activity and we cannot wait to see the finished products in the library. Our costumes on World Book Day were very creative and the Year 1 outdoor fashion show was lots of fun. The end of the week’s Book Domino was very exciting to watch and we were very proud of our fancy dress winners who received their prizes during the event. What a super week, we can’t wait to see what Book Week 2018 has in store!
In our Writing lessons, we finished the story of Handa’s Surprise with our very own version. We changed parts of the story and came up with some very interesting ideas. Handa was turned into a princess, robot, footballer and even Little Red Riding Hood! We recently began to look at different kinds of poetry and wrote acrostic poems based upon fruits and vegetables.
In our IPC lessons we have been preparing for our Celebration of Learning which will take place in the Globe at 2.30pm on Wednesday 15th March 2017. The work displayed shows our Happy, Healthy Humans work over the past term. We are very excited to share our learning withour grown ups and look forward to seeing lots of you there.
Preparations are now underway for the Year 1 show ‘There’s a Sunflower in my Supper.’ The children have received their lines and rehearsals will begin in class over the next few weeks. Please continue to practise your child’s lines with them at home. If any parents would like to help with the preparations for the show, please speak to your child’s class teacher or look on the Parent Portal.
