What's Been Happening in Year 1

Primary Year 1

Wow what a week Year 1 have had! This week in Year 1 we have celebrated Book Week. Throughout the week we have been completing various activities to celebrate our love for reading.

On Monday in writing, we began a whole school ‘Build a Book’ activity. Each of the Year 1 students began writing a story. They chose the setting and main character and started writing a story. The Year 1 teachers were blown away with the students writing, as they included openers  such as ‘Once upon a time’ and ‘One Day’ to start their sentences. The students even used adjectives to describe their setting and character! Each class then passed on their writing to the Year 2 classes. We can’t wait to read how our story turned out!

In Maths this week, we’ve been focusing on addition and subtraction number sentences. We’ve even been building our own number sentences and then solving them. To challenge us, we’ve been solving word problems using number sentences too.

In our IPC unit, ‘Happy Healthy Humans’ we’ve been discussing what a balanced diet looks like and how we can improve our own diet. To demonstrate our learning, we designed and then made our very own healthy sandwich. Our sandwiches were simply delicious! Why don’t you ask me what was in mine?

On Thursday we celebrated ‘World Book Day’! We had a brilliant day dressed as our favourite book characters. To celebrate we enjoyed listening to each others favourite books and even shared a picnic with our loved ones at lunch time. We hope you enjoyed the day as much as we have!
