Secondary Humanities and English Faculty News

The school is abuzz with Christmas cheer! The students are filled with excitement as the holidays are fast approaching.

Although the holidays are upon much preparation has begun for our school Internationalism week from the 3rd-6th of January.

In English and Humanities the Y7students will be exploring culture and investigating whether our diverse cultural backgrounds unit us or divide us. In year 8 and 9 students will be writing their own 3rd culture poetry inspired by the work of Stella Rotenberg.

Here is an example of one of her powerful poems:

RETURN

I’d return
just one more time
to the places of my childhood;
but not for the gardens,
the plentiful wine,
nor for the waltzes,
their three-quarter time,
nor for the ‘comforts’
for which some people go.
Not for the woodlands,
verdant and lush,
nor for the suburbs
far from the rush,
nor for the crystal
peaks in the snow.
I would go back
through the jaws of Hell
just to hear the sound
of my mother tongue
Again.

Our  Y9 students will also be visiting the Early Years campus to do some storytelling with a focus on culture.

The English and Humanities team wish you all a very Merry Christmas filled festive cheer and special family time. Safe travels and see you in the New Year!
