FOBISIA Orchestral Festival 2016 (Grade 5+) hosted by DBIS
FOBISIA Orchestral Festival 2016 (Grade 5+)
At the end of September the DBIS music department hosted the FOBISIA Orchestral Festival 2016. 10 schools from across Asia arrived for a weekend of intensive rehearsals led by guest professional conductor Ken Hseih from Vancouver. The students from DBIS and other FOBISIA schools were selected for their commitment to music and are ABRSM Grade 5 standard and above.
The repertoire selected was challenging and all original scores. The students tackled Tchaikovsky's 5th Symphony, Sibelius: Finlandia, Korean Folk Songs by Barnes and Brandenburg's 3rd Concerto. The weekend culminated in a Gala Concert at the DB North Plaza Community Hall, where the concert hall was standing room only with parents, friends of the school and the wider DB community coming out to support us.
The whole weekend was an incredible experience for all involved and inspirational for our students who were able to perform at a such high level music. I would like to personally thank the Music team, admin team and events teams at DBIS in assisting us over the course of the weekend. A big thanks also to our instrumental teachers who performed alongside our students as well as ran sectional rehearsals and those parents who gave up their time to also perform in the concert.
