A Night on Broadway Concert

Whole School Music

'A Night on Broadway' - Wednesday 23 March at the DB North Plaza Community Hall

What a magnificent show our talented musicians put on for an audience which was bursting at the seams in the DB North Plaza Community Hall. Over 140 students from Year 1 to 11 took centre stage in a 'Broadway' themed concert at the end of term 2. The students had been busy working alongside their music teachers all term within the variety of music clubs which DBIS offers our students, focusing on well-known show tunes selected from popular Broadway musicals.

The evening was opened with a drinks reception accompanied by Mr Kilpatrick and our Chinese Drumming team cleverly incorporating a variety of drum rhythms to some Broadway Classics.

With an entrance on a candle lit red carpet, our audience took their seats and our Orchestra opened the evening with the main theme from 'Phantom of the Opera'. Music filled the community hall, followed by our talented Year 1 and 2 students, dressed as cats, to perform their rendition of 'Mr Mistoffelees' from Cats.

This was followed by performances from the Secondary String Ensemble, Primary Wind Band, Primary Strings, Primary Choir and Secondary Choirs. The evening was concluded with the Secondary and Primary choirs and full orchestra performing 'Do You Hear the People Sing' from Les Miserables. (There was even a gigantic red flag involved!)

Once again our students exceeded all expectations. The standard of music at DBIS has once again risen and the numbers of students participating in our music ensembles is also growing.
