The DBIS Library Service caters to all stages of education and aims to give all students access to reading books and research resources that are relevant to their lives and individual learning journeys.
The Primary / Secondary School Library is centrally located in the Discovery Centre between the Primary and Secondary schools. Primary students visit the Library for a weekly, 45 minute session with their teacher and are able to visit it on their own during breaks and with their families outside of school hours.
Our collection is made up of over 20,000 items, including picture books, classic and contemporary fiction, poetry, non-fiction books and periodicals. All items are researched and selected to meet the requirements of our dynamic curriculum and to ensure we have suitable material for all ages and abilities. The library holds a set of iPads to facilitate student access to the school's suite of carefully selected online resources.
Research shows that reading aloud and talking about pictures and words in age-appropriate books strengthens language skills, literacy development and parent-child relationships (http://www.aappublications.
For Year 1 and 2 students, the Buzzing for Books program provides younger children another means of engaging with literature and reading.
For older Primary students, DBIS fields a strong and enthusiastic Battle of the Books team each year. This Hong Kong wide competition is designed to introduce students to a variety of reading material, build teamwork skills, and ensure that reading is fun.
The DBIS Primary / Secondary Library is open from 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday with dedicated library staff on hand at all times to ensure a warm and inviting environment for all who wish to use the facility.
