Music is a flagship at DBIS. All students are encouraged and supported in the development of performance skills, musical understanding and in developing a lifelong love of music.
Students study a wide range of genres and styles, encompassing classical, world music and pop. We explore and experiment with many different instruments and musical forms. Primary students have opportunities to explore performing arts projects in conjunction with Drama. Performance opportunities ranged from formed concerts to Battle of the Bands and overseas performance trips. We encourage all students to take an active role in the musical life of the school. Private instrumental lessons are available in piano, voice, violin, viola, cello, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, cornet, trombone, french horn, guitar, bass guitar, ukulele and percussion. Beyond the curriculum, there are many opportunities for participation in extracurricular activities, such as Orchestra, Whole Band, Primary and Secondary Choirs, Chinese Drumming Ensemble and Rock Bands.
Performances are staged in the Globe Theatre, Discovery Bay Community Hall and each Christmas we produce ‘Carols On The Pitch’ for the whole community. In addition our musicians participate in overseas trips to perform with other FOBISIA schools around South East Asia. There are four dedicated Music classrooms in addition to various practice rooms and we enjoy the support of Teaching assistants and a full-time technician. Our facilities are well resourced with students having access to a wide range of instruments as well as iMac computers installed with music composition and editing software.
