At DBIS we have created a stimulating, exciting and creative music curriculum which allows students to develop skills in the key the elements of composing, listening and performing.
The students are taught by specialist teachers who aim to foster a love and passion towards the subject through practical learning experiences.
Our music rooms are well resourced with students having access to a range of instruments as well as computer programmes that support them in composing and evaluating music. In order to give students the opportunity to learn a musical instrument and develop essential skills that can be applied to other instruments, our students learn the recorder in years 3 and 4 and the ukulele in years 5 and 6. In years 1 and 2 there is a specific focus on singing.
Beyond the set curriculum, there are various opportunities for students to extend their love of learning in music by participating in the many extra-curricular clubs on offer as well as individual instrumental lessons which are available during the school day.
