Through ongoing, varied and positive experiences, we give our students opportunities to experience a rich language environment, to develop their confidence and skills in expressing themselves, and to speak and listen in a range of situations.
We recognise that for many of our students English is a second or third language and we promote opportunities for them to develop a rich and varied vocabulary building on their knowledge of their home language.
Young children need to be active and interactive and to develop their coordination, control, and movement. We help our students to understand the importance of physical activity, and to make healthy choices in relation to food. Twice a week, under the guidance of a specialist teacher, our students participate in physical activities while practising the rules of safety, cooperation and gross motor skills development. Throughout the day our students are engaged in activities that promote the development of fine motor skills.
To flourish in all aspects of learning, children need to develop a positive sense of themselves and others. They need to form positive relationships and have respect for others. Through the teaching of personal goals we help the students develop social skills, to learn how to manage their feelings, to understand appropriate behaviour in groups and to have confidence in their own abilities.
